Old Louisville 5000

Saturday, November 17, 2007

Cherokee Road Runners will have their annual fall 5K run through scenic Central Park, at Fourth and Magnolia Streets (downtown Louisville), on Saturday, November 17, 2007. In addition to the 5K run, we will have a non-competitive 2 mile walk beginning on St. James Court. This is one of the club’s oldest races and will mark our 29th Year.

Please join us this year as we come together at this time of thanksgiving to help feed the homeless by supplementing the entry fee with canned goods which will be donated to the West End Baptist Church near Central Park. Make this into a family event, as we count our many blessings and at the same time share with others in need.

After the race, there will be an awards ceremony and we will have post race goodies to feast on. So, please come out and support this race. I know your heart will be blessed in your giving to others and in addition, you will have fun and a great run!

As always, volunteers are needed to put on this race. For information and/or to help out, please contact Race Directors: Dianne Ernst at 425-6798 or Donna McCabe at 495-1615.

NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF KY RACE

PAT DAY CHAIRS 2ND ANNUAL NKFK 5K RUN/WALK
Saturday, June 9, 2007

National Kidney Foundation of KY Race Start

The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky has announced plans for the second annual Dean Kutz 5K race on Saturday, June 9, 2007, with Pat Day as Honorary Chair.

The Run/Walk will start and end at 4th Street Live! and follow a course through part of east downtown and Butchertown. The race will start at 8:00 A.M. Proceeds of the event will benefit the programs of the NKFK. All participants will receive an official race t-shirt and be eligible for door prizes.

Preregistration for the Race is $20, and entries must be postmarked by June 2; late registration is $25.00. Packet pick up and late registration will take place at 4th Street Live! on Friday, June 8 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., and on Race Day, from 6:30 to 7:45 A.M. Registration forms are available at area running stores and parks; runners and walkers also can register on line at www.active.com.

Awards will be given for top three overall male and female finishers. Age group trophies will be given for first place male and female finishers. Members of the Kutz family will help present the awards. Awards will be given out at 4th Street Live! following the race.

Jockey Pat Day serves as Honorary Chairman in honor of his close friend Dean Kutz, for whom the race is named, and in honor of people who have said “yes” to organ and tissue donations. Kutz was a top jockey, who was struck with kidney failure in 1984. His sister donated a kidney, and Dean continued his career, going on to win top standings at premier race tracks. As a thank you to Pat for his support, the Race will serve as a drop off point for Mom’s Closet Resource Center, which maintains a food and supply pantry for single mothers in need of cleaning supplies, toiletries, nonperishable food items and baby supplies.

The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky supports programs to prevent kidney and urinary track diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation.

Additional information on the Foundation’s programs can be found on their web site at www.nkfk.org, and information on the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry is available at www.donatelifeky.org.

In announcing the Run/Walk, Lisa Allgood, Executive Director of the National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky, said, “The Dean Kutz Race began last year as part of the US Transplant Games held in Louisville and we’re pleased to continue the Run/Walk this year.” She continued, “Thanks to our sponsors, Nephrology Associates of Kentuckiana, Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Healthcare, and in-kind donations of goods and services from 4th Street Live! and many companies, all of the proceeds from the race registrations will go to our programs.”
